Stuck traveling?  Follow these 3 key principles in order to stay healthy while traveling:

Eat a Balanced Diet- One of the keys to healthy travel is a healthy immune system, which can be built up significantly and maintained by eating a balanced and healthy diet. Eating a variety of vegetables is a great start, as they are light on your digestive tract and allow for and promote regular bowel movements. Eating a variety of fruits is also important, as they are rich in vitamins and antioxidants which helps keep allergies in line. If you’re on a long trip with many stops, be sure to bring snacks or purchase them at one of your stops. Nuts like almonds, pistachios, and peanuts are good for snacking, as they help keep hunger cravings to a minimum and are also easy on your digestive tract. When purchasing food on the road, be sure it’s from a reputable shop or restaurant, as food poisoning is the last thing you want to deal with while traveling. If you find yourself in an airport that doesn’t have healthy options, consider fasting. Fasting gives your body a break from processing food and keeps you from making poor food choices.

Exercise Regularly- One of the most underrated methods of maintaining health while traveling is exercise. Travel schedules are often jam packed due to business considerations or sightseeing plans, but be sure to fit in a workout each day so your body’s immune system stays in peak condition. Weight training is a great way to workout on the road, but avoid over-training so you don’t have to deal with the limitations of muscle soreness. Non-impact cardiovascular exercise is a great way to workout on the road, as it taxes your body without limiting it for the remainder of the trip.

Get Plenty of Sleep- Sleep is a crucial part of maintaining health, so be sure to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. In order to improve sleep quality, keep all of the curtains closed at night to make your hotel room as dark as possible, and be sure to avoid looking at phone and computer screens at least an hour prior to falling asleep.
