Take one look at your mailbox and you’ll know that they’re after you. Credit card companies send millions upon millions of mailers out to prospective customers in order to secure their business, with many of these credit cards having rewards attached to them. From cash back to points, to airline rewards and hotel points, the credit card companies will throw any carrot out there to get your business. Once customers sign up, they often learn that there were many exclusions and loopholes in their agreement’s fine print that will now keep them from the rewards that were promised. But there’s one company with a credit card that doesn’t pull these shenanigans, and that’s Southwest Airlines with their Chase Credit Card.
If there’s one thing Southwest Airlines prefers to do, it’s to keep things simple for their customers. From baggage policies to how they board and beyond, everything is straightforward with this airline. Undoubtedly, the same holds true for Southwest’s Rewards Program and associated credit card. With the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit Card, cardholders earn 2 points per $1 on purchases made with rental car and hotel companies that the airline partners with, 2 points per $1 spent on purchases with the airline, and 1 point per dollar on all purchases that don’t meet the previous criteria. Given the credit card spending of the average American per year that seems like a lot of point earning potential, but what does it really get you?
The answer is quite a bit actually, and it’s very easy for the average consumer to find this answer, unlike with most credit card programs. Simply go to Southwest.com and search for flights from one location to another on a certain date, and be sure to select that you want to see the search results by point cost, not dollar cost. This returns the search results for Business Select, Anytime, and Wanna Get Away fares and shows how many points it would take to book that flight. If you do enough digging on the site and you live near a major airport, you’ll see that many roundtrip fares can be secured with 20,000 bonus points if you’re able to book at least two weeks before your scheduled departure. Combine that with the fact that Southwest commonly offers bonus promotions for getting the credit card that include 40,000 and even 60,000 bonus points, and this credit card is truly one of the best deals in travel rewards!
